Prices and Plans
WiTopia offers two different packages to users. These include Personal VPN basic package and Personal VPN Pro package. Both of the plans have slight variations in the features offered and come with 30 day money back guarantee.
For additional features and high security, we would recommend the Pro package. However the Pro package doesn’t come in one month pricing plan and the minimum package available is for six months. The prices for the basic package are compatible to some other VPN providers in the industry but the Pro package is one the higher end, as you can see.
Personal VPN Pro Package
The Pro package is available in three different pricing plans and time duration:
- $39.99 for 6 months
- $69.99 for 1 year
- $129.99 for 2 year
The Pro package offers all the features and security measures that are offered by WiTopia. Using this package, you use OpenVPN protocol along with PPTP, L2TP and IPSec protocols to protect your data against different threats. The Pro package also comes with 4D Stealth protocols that will further boost your online defense.
Personal VPN Basic Package
The Basic package is one of the cheaper of the two packages and comes in the following pricing plans:
- $5.99 for 1 month
- $14.99 for 3 months
- $28.99 for 6 months
- $49.99 for 1 year
The only difference between the two packages comes with the protocols that are offered. In the basic package, you only get PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec protocols as defensive measure. The OpenVPN and 4D Stealth protocols are not included in this package. Another difference is that you get 1 month plan with the basic package.
WiTopia VPN service has servers spread across 72 different cities and 44 different countries around the world. These servers allow you to remain anonymous over the internet as it hides your original IP address and replaces it with the VPN server IP address upon connection.
The wide server availability also shows that you can unblock various geo restricted channels from different corners of the world. Some of the major locations include USA, UK, Germany, Australia, China, Canada, Argentina, and many more.
Using these servers, you can easily access channels such as Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, ITV, Pandora, Crackle, VUDU, and many more.
In our WiTopia VPN review, we tested the performance of the service using different tests. These included speed tests, streaming tests, and checking for IP leakages. The tests came back average as we were able to access different geo restricted websites but streaming performance wasn’t consistent.
Although there were no IP leakages when we connected to the different servers using WiTopia VPN service but the speeds tests were disappointing, as you can see in the following section.
The speed tests were performed using speedtest.net and multiple tests were performed using different servers. The first test was performed without any VPN connection and following results were achieved:
Next we connected WiTopia with the US server and following results were achieved:
The test was repeated but this time with UK server and follow results was obtained:
The overall results were poor and showed drastic drop in download speeds while the upload speeds increased from the initial test. This impacted the streaming performance as we were unable to watch videos and TV shows in high quality without having any interruptions.
WiTopia VPN service utilizes different modes of communication in order to resolve its user’s queries. These include live chat support, email, FAQ section, and knowledge base.
WiTopia has 24/7 around the clock live chat service that can be accessed by users to resolve their queries. We tested the live chat feature in our WiTopia VPN review and were pleased with the overall result.
The customer support staff was quick in responding to our enquiry made about the service and provided detailed information along with links to related articles. For this the live chat feature gets full marks in quality and responsiveness.
WiTopia also allows you email them your VPN related problem and query. The ‘Contact Us’ page on the website provides different email addresses for the concerned departments. Alternatively you can fill out the form provided in the contact us page to email your query. We tested the email system using this form and got a prompt response.
The frequently asked questions section holds different information about the service, ranging from basic VPN related questions to certain technical questions about protocols and encryption levels. If you are looking to find out information about WiTopia and how it works, then FAQ section is the best place to start with.
On the ‘Support’ page on the provider’s website, you can access the knowledge base. The knowledge base section holds different articles and solutions relating to the VPN service. You can look for quick fixes and other solutions relating to WiTopia through this section.
WiTopia accepts payment through credit card and PayPal. These two are among the most commonly used payment methods however we didn’t find any anonymous payment method such as BitCoin.
WiTopia can add more payment methods to its arsenal and perhaps expand the payment merchants by including the likes of BitCoin and Payment Wall.
The sign-up process for WiTopia is fairly simple and easy to use. Once you select the package that you want, click checkout and it will take you to the order page. On the order page, you will be presented with a form where you would have to create an account, provide billing information, and then select the payment option.
After you have finished entering the payment details, you have to once again enter the account details that you initially entered in the form. You will then receive an email for account activation. Clicking on the link provided in the email will activate your services and take you to customer area dashboard on the provider’s website.
Compatibility & Tutorials Provided
WiTopia is compatible across various devices and operating systems. These include Mac and Windows operating system, handheld devices such as iOS and Android devices, Chromebook, Blackberry (Z/Q10 & Playbook), Linux devices, and other devices such as Boxee Box and HP webOS.
WiTopia has VPN software for Windows and Mac operating systems. However, no apps are available for iOS or Android devices. WiTopia is also not compatible on every router as the service offers its own VPN router, called CloakBox.
You can also configure the service manually using the tutorials and setup guides. The tutorials and setup guides can be accessed from the support page on WiTopia’s website and provide step by step instructions for configuring WiTopia VPN service.
WiTopia Windows Software
We tested the service on Windows 7 using the VPN software. The VPN client is easy to use and provide all the options that you need to select the server, protocol, DNS settings, and gateway options.
Protocols and Encryption
WiTopia VPN service protects your data and identity from various cyber threats through different protocols and encryption levels. The protocols offered are PPTP, L2TP, IPSec, OpenVPN, and 4D stealth protocols.
However, not all the protocols are included in all the pricing packages. As we discussed earlier, the Pro package allows you to use OpenVPN and 4D Stealth Protocol while PPTP, L2TP, and IPSec are available in Basic package.
The encryption level provided by WiTopia is up to 256 bit with the Pro package. The Basic package comes with 128 bit encryption level while the Cisco IPSec protocol also supports up to 256 bit encryption level.
The information that the service does collect includes the information that you provide at the time of signing up, data collected through cache, and other non-personally identifiable information.
The logs that WiTopia does are ‘trailing logs’ that allows the service to track users that are violating the terms of service or are breaching any other policies.
WiTopia does not provide any free trial at this stage. We inquired about a free trial with the customer support and got a response that state that WiTopia used to provide free trial but due to excessive violation of terms of service, the company doesn’t offer any free trials now.
However, WiTopia does offer a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee on the 3 month, six month, and yearly packages. With the money back guarantee, you get 100 percent refund if you are not satisfied with the service. On the monthly package, you can ‘cancel anytime’ option.
By our reckoning, 30 day period is sufficient time for testing out the service and configuring it on different compatible devices.
To sum everything up, WiTopia is an experienced VPN provider that has been operating in the industry for many years. The service is professional and for slightly higher prices with the Pro package, you get top notch online security and privacy.
However, not all is gold as there are some drawbacks to the service. For starters, the speed tests showed disappointing results. The download speeds were cut down considerably and we experienced inconsistent streaming performance.
On the other hand, the service has exceptional customer support with 24/7 live chat. It also offers VPN software for Windows and Mac, making it easy to use and highly compatible. We would recommend that if you are going to try the service out, then go for the Pro package and make full use of the 30 day trial period.
