Match of the Week – The Merseyside Derby Liverpool vs. Everton

Day & Date: Saturday 1st April 2017, Venue: Anfield, Liverpool, Time: 12:30 PM (BST)

As we prepare for the return of the English Premier League from the International break, there couldn’t have been a better treat to kick off match week 30. The second Merseyside Derby of the season is here as Anfield hosts yet another installment of the magical fixture between Liverpool & Everton. The match is the dirtiest derby in English football with a record “21” red cards given out over the years.

It’s Red vs. Blue … the Merseyside Derby is coming, with all its Glory:

There is great excitement and much great anticipation with a hint of bad news for the first derby between the two teams in 2017. We begin with Ex-Liverpool player & legend Jamie Carragher who has made a shock prediction ahead of the Saturday clash claiming Everton can snatch a surprise win at Anfield.

Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool is 4th in the EPL table and bring a record of DWWLW from their last 5 Premier League matches. There is good news and there is bad news for the Reds ahead of the clash. Philippe Coutinho has found form & the back of the net in the FIFA world cup qualifier against Paraguay with a majestic signature bottom corner strike. After a wonderful performance for Brazil, the Liverpool talisman claimed “… I’ve experienced these games both home and away and the intensity is equal with the fans…” as he seems pumped up for Saturday.

The KOP will miss its loyal crusader Adam Lallana who was sidelined by a thigh injury during the International FIFA world cup qualifier against Lithuania. A big blow for Jürgen Klopp’s team, none the less making a surprise early return will be Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, giving the reds a sigh of relief.

Everton are in great form bringing a record of WWLWD from their last 5 matches, they are on a roll beating Hull & West Bromwich, with two clean sheets going to Anfield. Everton courtesy of Lukaku have also scored 7 goals in their last two matches, a possible reason Carra has dropped the shock prediction. There is however gloom on the Blue side of the city with Irish defensive maestro Seamus Coleman stretchered out with a broken leg on International duty.

The last time Everton won at Anfield was back in 1999, with Kevin Campbell scoring the only goal of the match. Ian Rush holds the record for most goals in the Merseyside Derby with 25 net crashing strikes. It’s 4th against 7th, Red versus Blue, the KOP vs. the Toffeemen … get set for war!
