Episode 3 Build – Up
The Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 2 The House of Black and White left us with a lot of questions and perhaps more intriguing theories about the fate of Arya and who is Jaqen H’ghar, or what will happen to Jaime Lannister as he goes off to Drone along with Ser Bonn to bring back her daughter?
The episode left us with even more questions about the story with Sansa Stark and Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish: what is his ultimate aim and will Sansa be another pawn in his plans? Then there was Daenerys and her decision to execute her advisor in front of the entire city, claiming ‘The Law is the Law’. The third episode will air on Sunday, April 26th and we cannot wait for story to unfold.
Here is the promo for the next episode High Sparrow. The trailer promises more twists, betrayal, unexpected turn of events, and perhaps a build-up for something epic later in the season.
Crazy Theory: R + L = J
Here is a crazy theory that has got all the Game of Thrones fans and A Song of Ice and Fire book readers coming up with outlandish and heavily contested debate over the parentage of Jon Snow.
The R + L = J theory suggests that Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys’s older brother) and Lyanna Stark (sister of Ned Stark) are the real parents of Jon Snow. The idea is that Rhaegar had a thing for Lyanna Stark and abducted her from Robert Baratheon, which ultimately led to war and the eventual downfall of Rhaegar before Robert became the king.
In the wake of all this destruction, Robert Baratheon put an end to the Targaryen bloodline through mass slaughter. This is where Ned Stark makes a secret promise to Lyanna on her deathbed, perhaps while she was giving birth to Jon, to keep him safe and under his protection, and to claim him as one of his own.
From season 1, we were led to believe that Jon Snow is actually the bastard son of Ned Stark. But the world around Jon will completely change if this theory proves to be correct. If the theory is true then Daenerys and Jon would have to be cousins; God help us all if this happens.
The theory is still not proven yet and many have speculated that perhaps Samwell Tarly is going to be the unsung hero of Game of Thrones and is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen.
Seems unconvincing? Here are two signs to consider:
- Sam shares the same love for books and literature as Rhaegar.
- Sam also killed a White Walker when the time was needed to man up.
Although this does seems like a long shot but it does make you wonder whether R.R Martin could leave us with an unsung hero that appears to be ‘a nobody’ from the start.
As the season progresses, only time will tell if these absurd folklores of the Game of Thrones fandom are true or not. For now, the new episode of season 5 will air this Sunday on HBO and if you haven’t watched the leaked episodes by now, you must definitely look forward to watching this third episode.
