  6. Private IP

Surprisingly during our Astrill VPN review we discovered there is no money-back guarantee for any of the packages, which is unusual for a VPN service.

astrill ticketing system

During my Astrill VPN review I loved the design of the ticketing system as it provides all support sources and means to access them. Subscribers can get request solutions and provide complete details of their issues.

Live Chat

For our Astrill VPN review I tested claims of the prompt response &quick solution Live Chat service. Not many VPN providers can impress me at this point, our questions and queries were immediately addressed by the live chat representative, who was highly trained and very friendly.

astrill app compatibility

You can configure Astrill VPN on the router to us with all your smart devices or simply download their innovative apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Astrill VPN Desktop Client for Windows

Astrill VPN offers a brilliant Windows client to ensure subscribers get secured in one click. Astrill VPN for Windows in my opinion is very fast and consumes fewer system resources compared to many other VPN provider apps.

astrill windows app desktop

Astrill VPN’s Windows client does however have a massive limitation you can only use two tunneling protocols with the app, OpenWeb & OpenVPN. You also need to white list the Astrill VPN Windows client in your Firewall settings to ensure it works properly. There was an issue connecting to their more crowded servers during the day, but once connected the app was quite stable &data transfers were really fast.

Astrill VPN for Android

Astrill VPN also offers a decent Android app available on the Google Play Store. You can sign up on the official website for a 7 days money back trial to try out apps for all your devices. The amazing feature in Astrill VPN’s Android app was its incredible simplicity.

astrill android app

Like its desktop cousin Astrill VPN’s Android app only allows connecting using two tunneling protocols, OpenWeb and StealthVPN. During our Astrill VPN review I kept the app connected for over 12 hours, but it wasn’t until I started downloading torrents that the Android app suddenly disconnected.

I went through the Astrill VPN website and learnt one peculiar fact, torrent & P2P servers are marked with a  in the server selection list. Always ensure you select the  marked server before downloading torrents or even launching the torrent software, otherwise you will experience this leaving your activity open to the ISP.

Protocols & Encryption

Astrill VPN offers three major tunneling protocols to secure & encrypt all browsing activities and personal information. Tunneling protocols include:

  1. OpenVPN
  2. L2TP/IPSec
  3. PPTP
  4. StealthVPN
  5. OpenWeb
  6. SSTP
  7. Cisco IPSec,and
  8. IKEv2

All of Astrill VPN’s packages come with 256-bit AES encryption, which is the highest level of security to keep your internet activities concealed from cyber criminals, ISP monitoring and government surveillance.

Log and Privacy Policy

Astrill VPN retains no logs of their users’ activities and their browsing history. However, “Cookies” are stored on user devices to record preferences and activities on Astrill VPN’s website. Our live chat conversation during this Astrill VPN review with customer support also assured that the company does not keep any record or logs of our activities.

It wasn’t until I got to the privacy policy that I had a sudden rush of displeasure.

astrill log and privacy policy

Considering Astrill VPN offers downloading through torrents & P2P file sharing apps, that’s a ridiculous amount of information they collect mentioned in the screenshot of their privacy policy. What this simply means is that if the authorities come knocking on their door they will hand over user data in an instant.

So, do be careful how you pay for your subscription, how you use the service, and what information you give to the Astrill website & customer service because Astrill VPN also links to your social networking profiles.

Astrill VPN Add-Ons

Astrill VPN really smashes the competition with their amazing selection of add-ons. Usually all add-ons cost additional over cost of the subscription and are listed on the subscription page.

  1. NAT Firewall – blocks out unwanted outsiders from connecting to your host.
  2. Home Plan – allows you to use one account to connect up to 5 devices at the same time.
  3. StealthVPN – comes with double encryption to make it really difficult for ISPs to detect, throttle and block your access.
  4. VPN Sharing – can help you share your VPN connection from your computer system to other devices around you.
  5. Private IPAddress – is an IP that you can use for your own self and not share it with other users.
  6. Crypto Plus – has more secure encryption algorithms and increases it to 512-bit encryption.

After a conclusive Astrill VPN review we can be assured that Astrill VPN is a leading brand of the VPN industry. Powered by a rich set of privacy features & add-ons, Astrill VPN offers ridiculously serious online privacy & anonymity through its in-house managed servers and double encryption.

Astrill VPN’s superb low memory consuming & easy to use apps are another feature that simply makes it a phenomenal VPN choice. An interesting intrinsic aspect of Astrill VPN’s service bundle is their emphasis on subscriber ease, support and making the service convenient to use. All this reflects from their support services, apps, website design, payment methods and guides.

There are however some areas to consider where Astrill should improve. One of these is the major flaw in all their apps. None of Astrill VPN apps offer connectivity through more than two tunneling protocols hence the subscriber has to do configure other protocols manually. Adding the support within the apps will make the service simply delightful.

Another aspect we found was the information that the brand collect about customers. No matter how careful or promising, there can be a data breach and a bold “Your Information is Protected” claim will only embarrass them more. Changes must be made to Astrill VPN’s privacy policy.

This year’s Astrill VPN review rates the provider a brilliant 4.0 out of 5 in our editor’s rankings.

  7. Alim says:

Astrill is the worst. I can’t be the only person they’ve tricked into buying a years VPN service only to then later tell me I need to pay them $60 more dollars to actually use the service in China. Astrill is has pretty shady business practices.

Don’t be tricked by the false positive reviews.
